About the job
Imagine turning a climate problem into a solution, not in 2050 but today. That’s our mission - we make carbon neutral products out of air to fuel our daily lives. At Aerleum we want to create a better world for the next generations by building a circular economy where giga-tons of carbon dioxide are removed from the air and transformed into clean alternatives for fossil-based products.
How do we do it? We have a unique carbon removal platform to transform ambient air into high value carbon neutral molecules for the industry. We use advanced material science and enhanced chemistry to change the conventional process being used today in direct air capture and CO2 conversion technologies. Our technology is modular, energy efficient and productive to supply chemicals at scale that are carbon neutral.
Where we’re going. We have a significant technological advantage that can enable us to achieve cost parity with fossil-based chemicals and we want to go realize its potential. Our first product addresses a 0.3 GtCO2 climate problem, expected to rise by 5-fold in the next decades if nothing is done. We do not want that to happen and that’s we co-founded Aerleum.
We are backed by Marble, the climate deeptech venture studio, and world class scientists supporting our technology. We are here to write history and we want you to be a part of it.
Job overview
We are looking for a process/chemical engineer to support the development of our prototype. You will be working in close collaboration with our CTO, an expert in catalysis and CO2 conversion, to work on design, build and optimisation of the process at small-scale.
The candidate will be key first hire, co-building the core of our technology with the opportunity to quickly become a leader in the company, managing equipment procurement, scale-up and optimisation of the process.
This is a unique opportunity to get in at the ground floor as we’re building a net zero future for major global industries which are hard to decarbonize with conventional approaches.
Responsibilities
Engineering
Oversee the design and strategy of the overall process in collaboration with CTO
Ideate and carry out process improvements to reduce costs and increase production rates
Continued improvement throughout the scale-up process
Conception and development
Implement and configure the process; catalytic reactors, surrounding equipment (flowing, heating, analysis) and associated software, from inception through to scale-up
Work on the scale-up of the prototype
Performance assessment
Assess processes, take measurements and interpret data
Run and test systems and process with different samples
Perform process simulations and troubleshoot issues
Project management and procurement
Take part in equipment sourcing and procuring
Set up a project plan and maintain records relating to jobs as they are performed and completed
Provide operating instruction and process documentations
Skills & profile
We look for doers with a problem-solving mindset committed to tackle hard climate problems:
PhD, or equivalent industry experience, in process engineering, chemical engineering, material science or similar, ideally related to catalysis or carbon capture
Proven experience building a catalytic, carbon capture or related prototype
Experience in process simulation tools (ASPEN)
Experience in hydrogen is a plus
Experience in process scale-up and industrialisation is a plus
Ability to manage a project, from cost to people and time constraints
What we offer
The chance to be a first hire, having real responsibility, impact and input on a game changing climate technology
Competitive salary adapted to experience: starting at €40k gross annual
Continuous career development with direct daily exposure to the founders and a full view of taking a deep tech startup from idea to scale
Stimulating work environment in a cutting edge lab
Remote work (where possible) and flexible holidays
Wellness, activities and team building events
Making a furry friend, his name is Tokio 🐶
We believe that a diver group of minds is key to solving the climate crisis. we strongly encourage women and people of color to apply.
We are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and mission-driven team. If you’re excited about the job but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways!
